Rotterdam opens testing facility for floating building projects

The Aqua Dock in the RDM Rotterdam offers an experimental test-, demonstration and production space for building on water. This way, building professionals can develop new techniques, products and prototypes, like floating systems, floating greenhouses and floating, houses, offices and a hotel.

The experimentation location Aqua Dock is a floating building area with connected water building-sites. At these sites, different experiments for floating building projects can be conducted. The first builder is Houtdok, in combination with the scientific institute TNO.

According to the local authority of Rotterdam, the project needs to fulfill an important role in reaching Rotterdam's sustainability targets in the area of urban climate-adaption and development of a smart green port.
